Bernhard Maurer was a Postdoc at the Center for Human-Computer Interaction. He holds a Master’s Degree in Multi Media Technology from the University of Applied Sciences, Salzburg and finished his PhD in HCI at the University of Salzburg in 2018. During his PhD he explored different notions of hybrid digital-physical play and the interplay between social and physical context. His research engages in experimental and alternative forms of interaction design by utilizing physical and social context qualities as a design material. His design activities are driven by questioning established notions of gameplay towards creating interactive systems that go beyond purely digital or physical play.

Research Focus:

  • Hybrid digital-physical play
  • Tangible interactions and smart materials
  • Interaction design for games and play
  • Exploring unconventional forms of play
