The Center for HCI is a core facility of the University of Salzburg and the home of the HCI Division. It is a place of exploration and experimentation, where researchers, students, and collaborators engage in hands-on, practice-based inquiry into Human–Computer Interaction, from tangible and embodied interfaces to hybrid materials and AI-driven artefacts. More than a lab, the Center functions as an open studio for prototyping, testing, and exhibiting ideas. Its infrastructure supports this approach: digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters, electronics and embedded systems workstations, sensing and camera-based setups, and flexible environments for workshops, teaching, and public engagement. Together, these elements make the Center for HCI a dynamic ecosystem for experimental, interdisciplinary, and critically engaged HCI research.

How to reach us
The Human-Computer Interaction division is based in Itzling a district in the city of Salzburg within the technology facility “Techno-Z”. We are located on the ground floor of buliding Techno 5, which is at the end of Jakob-Haringer-Straße.
Within Salzburg
Take bus line 6 in the direction of “Itzling West” and leave at station “Science City Itzling”, then walk along Jakob-Haringer-Straße to building Techno 5.
Alternative route: Take bus line 3 in the direction of “Itzling Pflanzmann” and leave at station “Kirchenstraße.”, then approach the Techno-Z complex via a shortcut from Itzlinger Hauptstaße.
Via train
From Salzburg main train station take bus line 6 to “Itzling West” and leave at the 3rd station “Science City Itzling”.
Alternative route: take a walk (approx. 15 min.).
Via plane
Salzburg Airport WA Mozart is located approx. 7 km away from the us. Fasted and easiest way is to take a Taxi (e.g. +43 662 8111) for approx. 15 €. You can also take bus line 2 to Salzburg main train station, then take bus line 6 to “Itzling West” and leave at the 3rd station “Science City Itzling”.
